As the winter chill sets in and the days shorten, hot chocolate is a winter-time staple for warming the body up on a cool night. Thick, creamy and sweet, hot chocolate is perfect in so many ways except for one – dairy. The dairy proteins are quite similar in formation to those of gluten, resulting in gluten-sensitive people like myself from easily digesting it. Then along came a new ‘hot chocolate’ kid on the block from Nibmor Chocolate that elevates the art of delicious drinking chocolate to a whole new level.
This chilly season, you’ll find me indulging in Nibmor‘s organic, gluten-free drinking chocolate simply because it sooo incredibly good and it gives my almond milk a consistency reminiscent to hot chocolate made from cow’s milk. But make no mistake…there’s no milk products at all in these lovely tins…it’s 100% vegan.
I’ve had the chance to sample all four Nibmor flavors and, of course, just HAD to buy some for myself because it is so darn wonderful. There are four flavors – Original, Mint, 6 Spice and Maple – which round out the drinking chocolate line. Deep, dark chocolate is layered with a delectable and distinct flavor that comes from actual herbs and spices (not any sort of fake flavoring).
The ‘odd’ flavor that seems to garner the most attention is 6 Spice. It’s honestly my favorite because it’s just so darn interesting to drink. Each sip is like a lively adventure for the taste buds. The best way to describe it is a spicy Chai. The spicy kick isn’t too much though, rather it’s a subtle tingling experience in the back of the mouth that draws out a happy smile each and every time.
You should know that there is a difference between them which is important to note aside from obvious variation in flavor – they are made with different sweeteners. Original, Mint and 6 Spice are sweetened with coconut palm sugar (an unrefined, mineral-rich, lower glycemic sugar derived from the flowers of coconut trees) while Maple is, well, sweetened with maple sugar!
Whether I’m starting my day or sitting down to relax for the evening, don’t be surprised to find me with a cup of the decadent Nibmor hot chocolate this winter…it’s soooo yummy.

I loved my Nibmor chocolate samples, and have asked Santa for lots of hot chocolate tins!
