Why not get your daily protein shake in with a hit of delicious cherries? This recipe is my fun twist to the traditional cherry protein shake that’s great for both hair and skin.
What’s the twist?
*grin*
I won’t say just yet.
But I promise you that this odd ingredient gives the shake a really yummy flavor.
Loaded with healthy protein and collagen that’s both gut and skin healing, it’s one of my very favorites to make in the morning. I think you and your taste buds will totally agree 🙂
Cherry Protein Shake Recipe (With A Twist)
Inspired by bowls of delicious strawberry gelato drizzled with a thick balsamic syrup, this Cherry Protein Shake is better known as the “Italian Job Smoothie”.
(You’ll see why in a moment!)
But don’t stress… it’s not going to break your diet. In fact, it actually packs quite a healthy punch.
AND it tastes absolutely delicious.
As someone who uses protein shakes as a healthy alternative to more traditional breakfasts, I think you’ll also enjoy this.
It’s filled with cherries and balsamic vinegar. Both ingredients are known for their antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.
Yep… balsamic vinegar.
Balsamic vinegar is actually all the rage right now with companies making bottled gut-supportive drinks with it.
And before you say that this seems like a weird combo, consider that topping fresh berries or ice cream with balsamic vinegar is super delish.
One other delightful ingredient is the Maple Almond Butter from BaseCulture. I have to say that this has become one of my favorite iterations of almond butter that perfectly blends that maple flavor with the richness of almond butter. And yes… you can totally enjoy it by the spoonful too!
All in all, the Cherry Protein Shake (With A Twist) is worth a try.
I promise… one sip and you’ll be obsessed!
Ingredient Alternatives
If you’re not a fan of cherries, that’s okay. I won’t hold it against you (even though I’m totally addicted).
I also know that some people are allergic to stone fruits and have developed oral allergy syndrome to them and can only tolerate them when they’ve been cooked.
But you can still enjoy this recipe!
The cherry protein shake recipe can be made with any frozen berry!
I originally made it with strawberries earlier this year and fell in love.
Here’s the original post I shared on Instagram after I developed this recipe!
If you’re not sure what type of protein powder is best to use, I share my protein shake product recommendations HERE.
And you’ll notice the option to add in another ingredient — frozen zucchini!
It doesn’t really have any flavor at all, but it adds bulk (and veggies) to your morning shake if you feel like the shake is a bit on the thin side. I prefer my cherry protein shake to be a bit thicker, so the added zucchini gives it that extra oomph.
