No summer is complete without some watermelon! Why not opt for a watermelon cooler! But hey, did you know that watermelon is a great dietary option to remove excess heat from your body? If you are sweltering on a hot summer day, then a slice of watermelon might just do the trick. The reason is that watermelon contains a lot of water!
Certain herbs are cooling, so don’t forget about the mint! Though it’s technically a weed and will completely take over your garden should you plant it with your veggies, mint is known for it’s cooling properties. Now you know why people add it to tea and such in the summer, right?
You might be wondering why I’m into all this ‘cooling’ stuff. Well, I must confess — I do not have air conditioning. It’s mostly a choice at this point in my life as I find that cold temps indoors only makes bearing the heat outdoors even harder. So when it gets hot (and here in the Mid-Atlantic East Coast, it gets really hot and humid come mid-July), I shift my diet in a way that helps me stay cool naturally while still being gluten-free.
If you think I’m a bit crazy to opt out of the AC (as my husband sometimes thinks I am), I’m okay with that. But, I wouldn’t have this incredible gluten-free beverage to share with you that’s perfectly seasonal and a great treat!
