Dairy Free Shamrock Shake Recipe

Shamrock Shake

If you loved the special shamrock shake typically available only for St. Patty’s day, I’ve got a treat for you! Ditch the junk and chemicals for this dairy free shamrock shake recipe I’m sharing today.

It’s nutrient dense and a much better start to your day (or a boost to your energy as a snack) than that fast-food sugar bomb.

Don’t believe me?

As listed on the McD’s website, their SMALL Shamrock Shake contains 65 grams of sugar and no fiber.

65 grams of sugar = 16.25 teaspoons of sugar (just in case you didn’t realize that).

Take a moment to let that sink in.

16.25 teaspoons in a Small size… Yikes!

Just that reason alone should have you heading for the hills looking for a much healthier, easy-to-make, dairy-free shamrock shake recipe. And here it is…

Dairy Free Shamrock Shake Recipe

Twice the protein, tons less sugar, and boatloads more nutrition, this dairy free shamrock shake recipe is a much better choice.

No question.

Plus you ditch all those nasty chemicals.

You can be sure 100% that it’s gluten free. AND, it’s super creamy without any dairy in sight.

{Here’s the most complete guide of ingredients with hidden gluten out there!}

Now you can have a guilt-free breakfast treat that keeps you going all morning long. No more crash and burn!

Plus the mint greens I use means that you get an extra boost of antioxidants with each shake. No need to buy mint essential oils or flavoring. It’s all natural and gives you an added bang for your buck.

How To Make Your Dairy Free Shamrock Shake Creamy

Dairy imparts that creaminess and richness that you’ve come to love from childhood. It excites the taste buds and provides a thicker consistency possible from just using water or a non-dairy milk alternative.

But if you’re like me… dairy is not your friend.

There are a bunch of ways to remove dairy from your diet, and this trick for smoothies has come in handy over the year.

The key is to use an avocado.

Before your mind explodes or you gag, allow me to explain.

Avocado is something that I like to think of as a blank canvas when it comes to food. It can take on whatever flavors you add in so that no one will ever know it is in there. This is key if the idea of drinking avocado isn’t all that appealing to you.

That said, it provides the creaminess often found in bananas. (If you didn’t know, avocados and bananas are in the same family.)

Plus it’s a healthy fat source as a legit alternative to adding nuts, nut butter, or coconut.

And avocado adds additional fiber to your dairy free shamrock shake! Each quarter avocado increases the fiber content by about 3.3g.

Special Ingredients For Your Dairy Free Shamrock Shake

The one ingredient that you must use (and will having trouble finding a substitute) is the Mint Greens powder. There are very few available to buy.

My favorite is from Rado Nutrition from their Antioxidant Superfood Greens line.

It’s just one scoop of added greens, superfoods, digestive enzymes, fiber, and some probiotics. (To be fair, the Chocolate flavor is by far my most favorite greens EVER because of how dark and rich it is.)

The protein is part of their Detox Complete program which I’ve been following for the past nearly three weeks. (You can see more about my journey and meals here on my Instagram.) That said, you could certainly sub this out for your favorite vanilla protein powder.

Everything else for your dairy free shamrock shake is pretty straight forward to pick up at your local grocery store!

All I can say is… Yum 🙂

Recipe Notes

I swear by the Rado Nutrition protein and detox shake lines.

I am not paid to say this, but instead purchase the products on my own for personal use. Thus, I'm sharing what I love and what has worked for me.

To make a chocolate dairy free shamrock shake, simply use your favorite chocolate protein powder.

To add "chips" to your shake, add a tbsp of cacao nibs directly into the blender after you've made the smoothie. Blend it one more time for only a few seconds so that it doesn't completely chop up the nibs.
