Is your Easter candy gone?
Or did you stock up on all the treats marked down to keep on hand?
Don’t worry, I’m not judging you. But most people, when I ask them these two questions lately, chuckle. They know exactly what I’m talking about and so do you.
It seems now that stores have figured out a way to keep us stockpiled in candy from September (when Halloween stuff sadly appears on shelves) all the way through to Easter. Guess what? That’s eight months of candy-pushing. No wonder you can’t keep your hands off of candy and sweets since it’s pretty much a constant in our lives.
And then summer comes… and you’ve got fruit. Oh yeah, I said it – FRUIT. It’s in season and ever so tasty. Why stop at just one ripe peach when you can have 2 or 3? And the pre-cut fruit in the grocery or convenience store… it’s just so darn convenient to have for lunch. Plus, it’s natural and healthy and so incredibly good in the summer when the fruit is sweet from ripening in the sun, right? WRONG.
Yes… wrong.
I want to level with you… most of us are sugar addicts. We’ve grown up eating too many treats, sweets and baked goods literally for our own good. Sugar got us hooked long ago and it really seems like there’s no going back. Case in point – can you just eat one M&M? One gluten-free cookie? One piece of those decadent gluten-free brownies?
My guess is ‘NO’ and you’re not alone. I too have struggled for years, as have many of my friends in the healthy-living realm with sugar addiction issues. We’re all dealing with the struggle just as much as the next gal. Everyone, including me at times, has felt like there’s some spell that sugar has over you, compelling you to eat more and more sugar. In the famous last words of so many — “I just can’t stop myself from eating the entire bag! I don’t know what it is…”
Well, I’m going to tell you what ‘IT’ is that’s got you so roped in and under a spell that you can’t seem to get control back. Remember a scene from the famous ‘Simpsons’ TV show where Homer has a little “Homer Angel” and a “Homer Devil” sitting on his shoulders each vying for his attention and action? Just like Homer, you have a little “Sugar Devil” sitting on your shoulder woo-ing you to eat sugar, whispering “Just one more bite!”
What to do, you ask?
I’ll give you 3 tips for wrangling back control from your own “Sugar Devil”:
1) Stop buying the pre-cut fruit containers at the store. No excuses unless you’ve actually got a party going on and don’t have time to make a fruit salad yourself.
2) Throw your candy away. Don’t bring it to work and pawn it off on others. Throw it away…in the trash…outside your house.
3) Love to bake? Stop buying baking mixes. Their convenience makes it too easy to bake at a moment’s notice and eat things you know you shouldn’t. If you force yourself to make your oven creations from total and complete scratch, you won’t do it as often, you’ll possibly eat less and you can control the type of ingredients used.
These tips won’t break your sugar habit, but they’ll get you going. And I’ve got even more tips and tricks coming your way this during my upcoming Gluten Free Sugar Cleanse!
This cleanse is perfect for anyone who’s gluten-free and a self-described sugar addict (or who has a sweet tooth) wanting to get back control.

I will certainly try to attend on Wednesday evening, but with getting kids to bed, I’m guessing Thursday morning will be more likely! I would definitely love to hear more and thankyou!!!
